Dessert Hopping

I know this statement is so rare and so unexpected, but I’m not a fan of sweets. There, I said it! I know I may have gotten a few haters out there but I guess I grew up not liking sweets. (Nag-Nido kasi ako! hello there! joke!)

image

I’m a big fan of Katy Perry (SHE’S SO HOT) and I love the California Girls video, but I’m not a fan of cake, ice cream or even CHOCOLATE. I rarely go out of my way to find a resto to order dessert. Some of the sweets I like are chewy oatmeal cookies, red velvet cupcakes, plain yogurt and mochi. That’s it. I know right, BOOOORIIIIING.

But once in a while, there’s this one day that I crave for sweet stuff the WHOLE DAY! But these sweet stuff are not your usual, decadent chocolate-y, heavy syrup desserts, I like it with a mix of something that I enjoy eating.

So my story is about one very unusual sweet tooth night, and to my boyfriend, Eugene’s surprise, the historical night when I said “I want something sweet.”

Eugene: “Sweet? Seriously? Then let’s go dessert hopping!“

DESSERT HOPPING?! That’s sounds so crazy right? Well it was! We only had less than an hour because it was 10pm already and most restaurants close at 11pm. So we planned it out and finalized on 3 spots.

1) FIRST STOP: UCC!

image

UCC’s Frozen Brazo de Mercedes (P 230) I’ve been craving for this for about a week and my officemates and I were supposed to order a whole tray of this at Dasma but we didn’t push through. So I just had to get it! UCC is soooo pricey though, the whole tray of Frozen Brazo at Dasma is just 600 pesos!

I’ve fallen in love with frozen brazo since I tried Sweet Life of Angge last 2006. Since then I was hooked and it’s been a staple “bitbit” during special occasions. Now, I like the one from a household that sells frozen brazo in Dasmarinas Village. It’s not so sweet as Angge’s and the french ice cream is so good cos it’s not too sweet and you can tell it’s fresh and homemade!

2) SECOND STOP: White Hat!

image

White Hat’s Plain Yogurt  You read it right! I like my yogurt plain and boring. I really love the taste of yogurt and toppings just ruin how delightful and sour it tastes so I enjoy eating it plain! I enjoy white hat’s cos it’s almost as good as Red Mango.

3) THIRD STOP: Dezato

image

Dezato’s Mochi Ice Cream in Green Tea and Coffee flavors  (Php 40) I’m a big fan of mochi, buchi and just sticky rice! I love how the plain mochi can bring out the flavors in green tea. Omigosh! It’s so good, I want one right now. I like eating Mochi ice cream after 5 minutes defrosting in room temperature. Just when the mochi is back to it’s chewy state and the ice cream is still hard enough to bite into.

After 1 hour and 10 minutes, Dezato was closing on us and I had a huge smile on my face! Dessert hopping was GOOOOD. It’s sugar rush X 100. I think we might just do this every month.

TRY IT.

Pink Chiffon and Neon Nails

This was what I attempted to wear on our last C’Italian D-Date. I really love my new platform shoesies but I opted to change into flats in the middle part of the day because of the long trip (and C’Italian was really casual dining!). I wanted to wear something light and comfortable because it was a hot summer day, which was just perfect for a road trip!

Nude Chiffon Top: Pink Manila

Floral Vintage Skorts: The Ramp

I’ll be writing more about my new awesome find: pink platform shoes! so for now, it’s a secret where I got it! :)

Neon nails! I’m so in love with neon-colored nail polish these days. Doesn’t it make drinking colorful sodas more fun? :)

C'Italian D-Date

I’ve heard raves about C’Italian for so long now but because it’s all the way over at Pampanga, Eugene and I made sure to make the most out of it by preparing their resthouse (also in Pampanga but 40 mins away) so we can also hang out and swim. (I’m all about making SULIT everything)

As usual, I text blasted my friends but only Kwey and Ej were free! So it was another D-Date for us. We drove to Clark and after long stretches of awesome painted trees along Friendship Road and Eugene’s fascination over the iPhone GPS, we finally found C’Italian!

image

Eugene’s first encounter with his iPhone’s GPS! We got excited when we saw the blue dot that meant “US” which made us miss C’Italian’s spot. LOL

We were apprehensive because the facade outside looked like an old, old and I mean OLD restaurant. But because hunger is such a powerful feeling, we went inside and found ourselves in a quaint stone hallway where dinner plates hung with dedications from satisfied (popular) customers.

image

With my GBFF Kwey! Our outfits kinda match!

Our D-Dates: Kwey and EJ

image

I’m about 80% sure this is Rajo’s work. EFFORT KUNG EFFORT! :)

There wasn’t much people at that time because it was about 4pm, (OO, GUTOM NA GUTOM NA KAMI!) and the waitress ushered us inside the airconditioned room. Being the claustrophobic-asthmatic girl that I am, I asked if we can stay at the al fresco area instead. It was actually a good decision because outside, it was all bright and colorful! FRESH AIR!!!

image

I’m not so sure about the christmas lights, but I love their large statues and stone walls that had an Intramuros feel to it.

image

With my boyfriend and forever date Eugene.

image

C’Italian “Your home for great Italian food.” Naks!

image

I super adored the colorful circus-like tent above us!

Ok, so now we go to FOOD! Because we were famished, we skipped the appetizers and ordered 2 large entrees. We were first served fresh bread with an olive oil/parmesan/pesto dip.

image

I enjoyed the bread, it was fresh and nutty. I like how generous the serving was. (Masarap talaga pag libre!)

image

Their olive oil, parmesan and pesto dip. It was okay, the pesto was a tad salty so we also ordered the good ole olive oil-paremesan-balsamic vinegar combo.

image

Yummy Italian Sodas! (Php 105) I had strawberry soda and Kwey ordered the pomegranate. sosyal.

image

Neon nails make drinking Italian sodas MORE FUN!

image

Panizza Kristina (P 835) I heard that head chef and owner, Chris Locher pioneered the panizza here in the Philippines. They serve panniza which is basically a large thin and chewy pizza that you roll with arugula and alfalfa sprouts. It trumps Yellow Cab’s Dear Darla big time! All the toppings were fresh. I just wish they put on more cheese.

image

I love arugula!!!

image

DELISH!

We ordered another dish which was Kwey’s much awaited Roasted Honey and Garlic Pork Spare Ribs served with Polenta. IT.WAS.HUGE.

image

Roasted Garlic and Honey Pork Spare Ribs with Polenta (Php 1,350) It was pretty expensive but for the size, it was all worth it! I love how juicy the meat was but I think the real star of this dish is the Polenta. It’s like mashed potato but according to Kwey, it’s actually made of cornmeal which has gritty but yummy texture. I love how it tasted so much like cheese! We only finished the top layer because we were so full already. Can you believe, EJ Enciso was full! hehe We asked for them to pack it and planned to eat it as pulutan when we get to Eugene’s house.

Here’s a photo of the yummy leftover.

image

Sorry about the presentation, but after grilling the pork on charcoal, it actually tasted better. We also ate it using our fingers and eating to the bone. (YUM) Too bad the cats ate all the leftover polenta while we were swimming!

I actually feel bad because we were so full already that we forgot to order the Cannoli dessert that Kwey suggested! I also wondered why we didn’t order pasta since pasta is always my benchmark on how good Italian restaurants are.

C’Italian is not (YET!) my favorite Italian restaurant, I would still rather go to L’Incontro or Bellini’s! But I’m giving it another chance when we go back to Pampanga and order some pasta and try their appetizers next time around.

Heat Wave

This outfit is composed of clothing turned into other types of clothing. From dress worn as a top to a jumpsuit worn as trousers! I love these pair from Coexist and I’ve been wearing them as trousers for the longest time!

image

image

Dress (worn as a top): Pink Manila

Jumpsuit (worn as trousers): Coexist

Wedges: Prada

image

I also love this pair of Prada wedges, given to me as a gift! I love forest greens!

The whole outfit is just comfortable, just right for the really hot temperature here in the Philippines! It went up to 36 degrees the other day, just crazy! Everyone’s been going to the beach already, I can’t wait for our trip on May!

How are you spending summer so far? :)

Boho Luxe

I recently stumbled on a designer who makes awesome wide-legged pants! It’s called Iconique Clothing and they have made-to-order wide-legged pants for just 1k for a pair! I love this trend right now ‘cos it’s a breath of fresh air (literally and figuratively) from the skinny jeans and leggings we’ve all been wearing. I’ll be buying more pairs in bright colors!

Bib: Amber

Bodysuit: Topshop

Wide-legged trousers: Iconique

This photo was the one featured in StyleBible’s LOTD! Thanks StyleBible!

Love as defined by Antonio's Degustation

I have been meaning to write about food for the longest time and I think it must be the most crucial, intricate and important topic for me. Ergo, the major delay. I am mustering all that  I can to write about it because i feel that my love for food cannot simply be expressed through words! I just hope this first attempt will encourage me to write freely about food and try to capture the deepest emotions in me upon taking the first bite!

I am just so darn lucky to have such a wonderful boyfriend who listens and gets me even if I have so many things I want going on at the same time. Like he says, “One at a time..” I just have to be more patient to get I want. (BUT IT’S SO HARD!) Which brings me to a wonderful surprise that I have been wanting for so long…. A dinner at Antonio’s Tagaytay for Valentine’s day! Antonio’s is THE BEST restaurant I’ve tried in the Philippines (a constant in the Miele Guide to Asia’s Best Restaurants) and I was so happy when I found out he was able to get us a reservation even if it was V-day, the most fully-booked day for all the special restaurants.

We had to travel all the way from work and got there at almost 9pm! But they understood, like it was a commonplace thing for couples to walk in late straight from a 2-hour drive from Manila.

To get to Antonio’s you have to drive a long pathway from the mainroad but once you enter their gates (which looked like a private gate btw!) you will be welcomed by their iconic driveway.

image

Antonio’s iconic driveway. The start of a gastronomic night! Excitement brewing!

I really love black and white interiors! It’s actually the theme of my room! (hoping to blog about it soon) Antonio’s interior design does not disappoint! It’s a mix of traditional Filipino with the intricate patterns of the tiles, paneled wooden windows and the small statues that adorn the hallways. These are contrasted contrasted by the contemporary elements of the black and white walls and clean lines.

image

One of Antonio’s big rooms which was almost empty when we arrived at 9pm!

image

My favorite part of the design. The intricate black and white tiles! It’s just like my room! but more expensive. hehe

Okay, so I want my blog to also feature a restroom shot because for me, restrooms are crucial. My mom always tells me that you should check the restroom because if they maintain their restrooms clean and polished, that’s how they take care of the whole restaurant and most importantly, the kitchen (which we never see most of the time!)

image

Antonio’s restrooms are just divine! I love the whole look! I can definitely hang out at their restrooms! haha dyahe lang the open window. I hate PEEPING TOMS!

We were seated at the garden area around the Koi pond which had just the right ambience compared to the stiff tables in the big areas. Here’s our awesome view.

image

They put out umbrellas because it drizzled early in the afternoon but you can ask them to put it down.

image

Tables beside the Koi pond.

image

Clean lines, greenery and yellow light. Got to love the ambience!

As soon as we were seated, the waiter came with the oversized menus and we decided to go for the Valentine degustation special. Eugene and I just chose different entree’s and desserts. Now it’s time to make you hungry!

image

This was one of the best service breads I’ve tried. I swear! The crust was super nutty and crunchy and the inside was chewy, sweet and hot! Just the way I like it. No need for the butter!

image

Now, THIS is definitely my favorite part of every meal. I know a lot of you love desserts but I’m more of an appetizer kind of girl! So much more when the appetizers come in 3! This is BY FAR, the best part of the whole degustation!

(from L-R)

1. Scallop Tasting - I’m not very fond of scallops but this one was an exception because it wasn’t too fishy and the cooking was so good because it was juicy and sweet. I loved the foam on top which was really yummy and delightful.

2. Roquette Salad on Quattro Formaggi Tart - O.M.G.! I loved this so much because of the Quattro Formaggi Tart!!! anyone who knows me knows that I LOVE CHEESE and this one takes the cake! They made a tart using 4 kinds of TOASTED CHEESE. Imagine the best part of the pizza is usually the toasted cheese on the sides right? and they made it a WHOLE tart. HELLLOOO YUMMY! Nawala ako sa world! The mix of the cheese was creamy that had a bite to it. A MUST TRY!

3. Pan Seared Foie Gras on Granny Smith Apple I know I’ve been raving about foie gras for the longest time and I can say that the fascination hasn’t gone away. It’s such a hard mission to look for restaurants that serve perfectly cooked foie gras! Most restaurants serve it in a thick slice which makes it  nakakaumay once you get to the middle part. I love Antonio’s cause the serving is just right and the foie was seared evenly. I like how it’s paired with a slice of tangy granny smith apple which balances it out. Don’t forget to try smearing it on the bread or crostini. YUMMY!!!

SOUP TIME!

image

Baked Tomato Cappuccino I love foam on food! This tomato cream soup was hot, creamy and sour all at the same time. Just right! The crostini with gruyere was equally good. Again, I love cheese and toasts!

image

Roasted prawns on top of Wild Mushroom Risotto

I wasn’t full yet at this point but I didn’t eat much of the risotto because I wanted some space left for the entree! I must say though that the prawns were cooked perfectly! Prawns/shrimps should be cooked only until it’s semi-transparent so it comes out juicy and flavorful. I love how their prawns tasted smoky! Don’t you just hate it when you get overcooked prawns/shrimps that are flaky and already sticking to the shell?!

image

Watermelon Calamansi Sorbet to freshen the palette!

image

Eugene’s Entree: Beef Fillet with Garlic Mustard Cream sauce - It was ok, mine was better!

image

MY Herbed Roasted Rack of Lamb with Cardamom Beurre Blanc with Pumpkin Sage Risoni - I love lamb! Most people find it too gamey, but I’m a big carne fan that way! This whole rack was HUGE but cooked perfectly! It’s very juicy but it had toasted parts too that was SO GOOD. I usually ask for some mint jelly for the palette but the cardamom beurre blanc was already perfect that I didn’t want to ruin the taste on my happy buds. I also liked the pumpkin sage risoni which was basically pasta shaped like rice. I wasn’t able to finish it cos it was too heavy already.

image

Green tea for the happy soul!

image

Dessert! my Dark Chocolate Souffle with Cardomom Creme Anglaise. I love souffles and I love how the taste was kind of toasted already. I wasn’t too fond of the Cardamom Creme though, I liked the flavor on my lamb but not on my dessert! It tastes like ginger, and I’m not a big fan of ginger.

image

Eugene’s Assorted Berries with Chantilly - I was already bursting at this point, I just tried some of the chantilly which was lovely! Eugene finished it whole.

I can definitely say that Antonio’s is on the top of my list when you want to have a romantic and gastronomical experience. It’s worth the 2-hour drive because nothing beats Tagaytay evening weather after long hours in the Manila heat! It’s also the only place that you won’t complain about how expensive it is because the food is from  world of its own! BEST.DATE.EVER.

My Baby macbook is SICK!

I am nearing depression! My macbook just broke down last Friday and I thought it will just be a quick fix. Not until today when I had to bring it to the supplier have I realized how sick he was! (Notice how I treat him now so dearly and personifying pa!) So now I have to wait for about a week and a half til I get it back! I can’t believe it! It’s just 5 months OLD! And just when I’m on a roll to do some blogging. I have so many content already and I organized it into clean folders ready for posting!!!! BAWAL BA?! BAWAL?! Agggghhhh. SADNESS.

How my 1st Advertorial for Belo Awakened My Inner Writer

image

This was my first advertorial for Belo which I wrote last November! (I can’t believe it’s just now that I shared it!) When the assignment was given to me, my boss just said “Can you write an advertorial for our Jinkee campaign?” like it was a usual thing for me. Now I was still not used to writing for major stuff. (See! I still use “stuff” which is just so senseless and informal) and my work was supposedly for Digital which requires for me to write CASUALLY on our beauty blog, Facebook, Twitter which really don’t require for me to be too technical, wordy or even grammatically-correct. (ALTHOUGH, I’M BIG ON BEING GRAMMATICALLY-CORRECT, Ask Cueps!)

So when the task was given, I was just bewildered because it was a big responsibility for me! I was pretty privy when it comes to writing and somehow, I still couldn’t recognize that I’m good at doing copywriting or even an advertorial. Nonetheless, I was EX-COOOITEEEED! I haven’t seen any of my own writing in newspapers or magazines and come to think of it, it has always been a passing daydream for me. So I charged on the assignment with much gusto and with the help of our PR Manager, Ms. Leah, I was able to come up with a short, but-good-enough advertorial for Jinkee on BodyTite. I’m pretty happy about it because I can see that it had my writing voice (can you hear it? can you hear my high-pitched ipis voice?) and the fact that I didn’t over-write it was a big achievement. (Oops, just like what I’m doing now)

It was actually the start for me to have more confidence in writing and doing some quick copywriting for Belo. Since then, I have been in charge of doing some copies for our ads, promos and campaigns. (I had the assignment of doing the brochures too, but I’m not too proud of it ‘cos I got all haywire with all the medical terminologies!) Now it’s growing to be more of a hobby and I enjoy it more when my teammates from marketing ask for my help in doing write-ups and copies. This is probably one of the best tasks that I have now and it has opened an avenue for me to actually revive this blog! It helps to sharpen my skills in writing and coming up with creative content which is part of my digital job. And it has helped A LOT! I’m learning to become a free-spirited writer and I’m more eager than ever to do a good job. As they say, it’s really never too late to learn and gather passion for something. And this time, for me it was WRITING. :)

Obsessing on Boho Chic and Gisele Bundchen

I’m a big big fan of Bohemian look and fashion. I just love paisleys, ikat prints, florals and a pile on of gold chains with strings of beads. Forte ko din ang mga flowy, chiffon-y and maxi dresses all over and over. (with a wind effect pa)

image

House of Harlow is LOVE! <3

image

Wide legged pants this season won’t hurt! Let’s go 70’s!

image

I absolutely adore Nicole Richie and Drew Barrymore, who are both icons when it comes to pulling off this look. Kung keri ko lang mag-dirty blonde beach hair, ganyan na look ko everyday! Magdadala ako ng electric fan just to get the wind effectus!

image

Nicole Richie for House of Harlow

image

image

Drew takes on Bohemian-polished.

Imbento ko lang yan, pero diba, she was able to pull of a Bohemian vibe  with poofy hair! It’s the maxi and the colorful print of the bib that shouts BOHEMIAN! BOHEMIAN! JA-JA-BOHEMIAN!

Now enough of these icons, this blog is just all about my new obsession on Giselle Bundchen! I LOVE HER. Pwede ba, can I just have her amazona legs?! She goes Bohemian Deluxe for H&M!

image

She’s so awesome! nakakaloka!!!

image

THIS, I want!!!! It’s perfect for any skin color or hair…..

image

One of my favorite style bloggers would be StylePantry. She is just FRICKIN AWESOME. She’s got this big ‘fro and she can pull of any outfit! I SWEAR, she’s such a gem. I can spend hours going through her fashion blog. Here’s her “TARAY MO TE!” version of the Gisele Bundchen dress:

image

Here’s her other outfits that I am also obssessing on:

image

She actually made this sheer maxi skirt!

image

Love her! <3

Soooo here’s my sort of take on the trend! I recently stumbled on a designer who makes awesome wide-legged pants! :) I also wore my ginormous intricate bib I got wit a dress I bought from Amber at The Ramp!

image

Syempre I had to blog myself along the likes of Nicole, Drew and Gisele! Hahahaha

Will post my chictopia entry soonest!!!

Growing Into Flowers

image

I’ve been noticing that my closet’s growing florals by the day! I’m kind of obsessing with florals, I have them on my tops, pants, skirts, and blazers! I love this vintage floral cape from Ginger Clothing which my friend Kriska Kalingking owns. (check her out at http://www.facebook.com/iwearginger) It looks amazing how the flowers are cascading all over and it’s just feminine and flirty! (Forte ko yata yun, it was so hard for me to pull off that androgynous look)

image

I love these wedges from Tonic (AGAIN!) it has a combat-worthy look but the slim wedges make it wearable and just right for someone with super thin ankles like me!

image

I wore this turquoise bead necklace which I’ve had since college! good thing I didn’t throw it away, it’s just perfect for the season’s hot trend, COLOR BLOCKING!

image

r

I have a really funny story on my blog about color blocking! So last week I posted a status on Facebook: “Friday is Color-Blocking Day” where my officemates and I set days when we’re supposed to follow some sort of theme or trend. (Feel namin maging high-fashion editorial board, bakit ba!) I don’t know if it’s just me but the whole week, it’s been all about the color-blocking trend, it’s all over magazine covers and on fashion blogs. Major EPIC todo-todo FAIL lang ‘cos it turned out, I had to take a leave yesterday ‘cos of my chronic migraine. So I was feeling bad and all and then Mel called, asking “dapat ba plain lang ung color-blocking?!, I only have printed!!!” HAHA. Then my other officemate, Trish posted a status on FB:

“color blocking day pala ah! nasan ang pasimuno na si Denise Cabotage?..(sana ok naman yang mata mo) Rona Bel Ayeras Mel LedesmaDarling de Vera may sumunod ba?..ako lang ata.. :|”

So there, it was A BIG FAIL for us. I think our No-bra theme could’ve been a success! HAHAHA

Please keep posted, I’ve been planning to put together a color-blocking outfit and let’s see if I can pull it off!

<3,
